THE ESSENTIALS IN 5 POINTS
- A digital safe commits to your documents. Integrity, availability, a record of operations and restricted access: that’s what French law expects of it.
- Digiposte is La Poste’s. Free up to 5 GB, it receives documents from your employer, the tax office and suppliers, and it’s hosted in France.
- eDocPerso is Silae’s, a payroll software publisher. Free, it mainly receives the payslips your employer puts there.
- Clivio is not a digital safe. It claims neither certification nor evidential value. It reads each paper, files it and tracks its dates.
- The two work together. The digital safe keeps what others put there for you; Clivio helps you find your way through the rest.
What a digital safe is
If you work in France, your employer may send your payslips to a digital safe, such as Digiposte or eDocPerso, and the tax office or your suppliers can send documents there too. The term has a legal meaning.
The Postal and Electronic Communications Code (Code des postes et des communications électroniques, article L103) defines the digital safe service, and ANSSI, the French cybersecurity agency, sums up its obligations (in French):
- guarantee the integrity and availability of the documents you keep there;
- record the operations carried out on your space, and let you view them;
- restrict access to you and the people you authorize;
- let you get everything back easily, in a usable format.
The law provides for a certification of these services, but ANSSI states that it isn’t available to providers yet. Providers therefore highlight other benchmarks, such as AFNOR standards on archiving. Read what each one announces, and what its certification covers.
A digital safe isn’t just cloud storage: a drive keeps your files without committing to their integrity. Nor is it a tool that reads your papers for you.
Digiposte, La Poste’s digital safe
Here is what its official page (in French) announced when we checked it on October 24, 2026.
- Two plans. Basic, free, with 5 GB. Premium, at €3.99 a month, with 100 GB, search within the content of documents, offline access on mobile and phone support. One month’s trial is offered once.
- Documents that arrive on their own. You connect your employer, the tax office and suppliers such as your phone operator or your electricity supplier, and their documents arrive in your space. A notification tells you about each new document.
- A scanner and sharing. The mobile app scans your papers, and a secure link shares a document, a share you can delete at any time.
- Hosting in France, on La Poste Group servers.
On its page about the digital safe and the cloud, La Poste presents the NF Z42-020 standard as the one that guarantees “the integrity, traceability and durability of archived files”, and writes that Digiposte “also” complies with “the NF Z42-013 standard” (our translation).
eDocPerso, the payslip safe
eDocPerso is published by Silae, a payroll software publisher. Its official App Store listing (in French), checked on October 24, 2026, presents it as a digital safe that is “individual, free and available for life” (our translation).
- Payslips arrive on their own, with your employers’ other documents, in the “Mes employeurs” (my employers) category.
- You add your own documents by import or by scan, sort them into categories and folders, and share them through a secure link.
- Guarantees announced by Silae. Its brochure on going paperless (in French) describes an employee digital safe certified NF 203 “coffre-fort numérique”, with 10 GB of free space and data archived on its servers in France.
Silae presents it as the digital safe where employers distribute payslips to their employees. We didn’t find, on its official pages, how to open an account without going through an employer.
And Xambox, often mentioned in French comparisons? Its address, xambox.com, now shows another site, which states that it has “no connection with the former Xambox document collection and centralization solution” (our translation). So we haven’t compared it.
What Clivio does, and what it doesn’t
Let’s be clear: Clivio is not a digital safe. It claims neither certification nor evidential-value archiving, and it doesn’t receive your documents directly from your employer or the tax office. Its job is elsewhere: turning your papers into documents you can find, and whose dates no longer slip past you.
- Everything arrives in one place. Drag and drop, an inbox address in your name for the emails you forward, the phone scanner with no app, an import from Google Drive and Dropbox.
- Each paper is read. It gets a clear title, a type and a summary. The date, the amount and the due date are picked out, and the text is transcribed for search.
- You find it in one sentence, like “home insurance” or “EDF bills 2025”, or by asking the document a question.
- Dates are tracked. The due date of an invoice or a contract appears on your calendar, and you get email reminders for the ones you extract as tasks.
- Sharing that expires, after 1 hour, 24 hours, 3 days or 7 days, with amounts, IBAN, identifiers or addresses hidden if needed.
On hosting, Clivio relies on Google Cloud, and part of the processing, including AI analysis, takes place in the United States. The Trust page details where each piece of data goes.

The case of payslips
According to service-public.fr (in French), the electronic payslip has been the rule since 2017, and paper the exception. To give it to you in that form, your employer must tell you the conditions. You can refuse to receive it electronically, by telling your employer.
If you accept it, leave your payslips in the digital safe where your employer puts them: that service is the one committing to keep them. You can keep a copy elsewhere, to find them with your other papers. In Clivio, the analysis of a payslip picks out the employer, the net pay and the date.
Payslips are kept until your pension is settled: see how long to keep payslips in France, and our document retention tool for every other paper, from leases to tax notices.
Three questions to choose
- Who sends you these documents? If it’s your employer or an organization that uses a digital safe, keep it. If it’s invoices, contracts and letters coming from everywhere, you first need one place to gather them.
- Do you need a guarantee, or to find them again? A guarantee of integrity is a digital safe’s job. Finding a paper by what it says is Clivio’s.
- Have you ever missed a date? A cancellation, a payment, a renewal: if so, choose a tool that picks out due dates and reminds you of them.
When to choose a digital safe
- Your employer puts your payslips there.
- You want to receive documents from organizations and suppliers without doing anything.
- Hosting in France matters to you.
- You expect commitments on the integrity of your documents.
When to choose Clivio
- Your papers come from everywhere and you no longer know where the right ones are.
- You want to find a document by what it says.
- You don’t want to miss another due date.
- You share documents and want to hide what is none of the recipient’s business.
For household papers, our page on personal document management software also compares a folder on a drive and Paperless-ngx, the open-source software you host yourself.
Frequently asked questions
What is a digital safe (coffre-fort numérique)?
An online service that keeps your documents while committing to their integrity and availability, keeps a record of the operations on your space and restricts access to you and the people you authorize. That’s the definition in the French Postal and Electronic Communications Code (article L103), summed up by ANSSI, the French cybersecurity agency.
Is Digiposte free?
Its Basic plan is, with 5 GB. The Premium plan costs €3.99 a month for 100 GB, and adds search within the content of documents. Prices checked on October 24, 2026 on laposte.fr.
Is Clivio a digital safe?
No. Clivio claims neither certification nor evidential-value archiving. It reads your papers, files them and tracks their dates. For your payslips, keep the digital safe where your employer puts them.
What is an alternative to Digiposte?
It depends on what you expect from it. To receive your payslips, your employer chooses the service, for example Digiposte or eDocPerso. For guarantees on the integrity of your documents, you need another digital safe. To read, file and find the rest of your papers, a service like Clivio does that job.
Can my employer make me receive my payslips online?
No. According to service-public.fr, the electronic payslip has been the rule since 2017, but employees can refuse to receive it electronically. They tell their employer.
